Stop stalling; make more EVs NOW!
GM: stay true to your word. We believe in an all-electric future and we are counting on GM to help us get there today.
America wants EVs and GM has promised to deliver. Despite claiming to be committed to making “EVs for Everyone,” GM has failed to bring to market affordable, widely-available electric vehicles. Now GM’s CEO, Mary Barra, has said that its plan to go 100% electric will now play out "over decades.” Join us in telling Mary Barra: Stop stalling; make more EVs NOW.
GM claims that its EV strategy is driven by “consumer demand,” yet the company ended production of its popular Bolt EV at the end of 2023 – the single biggest driver of their EV sales to date. After pushback from consumers, GM announced that a new, Ultium-powered version of the Bolt EV will return – but not until 2025.
Meanwhile, demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, with a record over 330,000 EVs sold in the second quarter of 2024. When a model is affordable and well-marketed, demand goes up. Right now, the electric vehicle industry is at an inflection point—and GM has its foot on the brakes.
Transportation industry is the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. According to the American Lung Association’s “State of the Air 2024” report, 131 million Americans live in communities with unhealthy levels of fine particle pollution, which are released by gas-powered cars. While GM publicly states they have an "aspiration to become the most inclusive company in the world" they continue to push gas cars that contribute to tailpipe pollution and negative public health outcomes, disproportionately affecting communities of color. GM needs to live out their stated commitment by going all in on electric. It is absolutely imperative for the health of our people, planet, and economy that GM do its part to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.
